Jewellery Remodelling

Have you ever taken an old piece of jewellery out of your jewellery box, wished you could wear it again but felt the design was a bit outdated, and wasn’t you? Perhaps it was your grandmother’s ring or your mother’s favourite necklace? You want to honour the memories attached to the jewellery but need a design refresh to match your personal aesthetic.

Give Your Old Jewellery New Life

At Artisans Bespoke Jewellers in Brisbane, we specialise in breath-taking bespoke jewellery design and take great pride in our jewellery remodelling services.

Our skilled artisans have decades of experience working with precious metals, diamonds and gemstones. We can transform your treasured pieces into one-of-a-kind works of art perfectly suited to your style.

The Consultation

The jewellery remodelling process begins with a face-to-face consultation in store, during which we discuss your vision and scope for the remodelled piece/s. Do you wish to subtly revise the design to make it feel more current or perhaps take a bolder approach and completely reinvent the look? Our jewellery designers, who are also qualified jewellers, are experts at preserving treasured elements, like sentimental engravings or meaningful stones, while updating other parts of the design to reflect your aesthetic and brief. We can understand our client’s emotional connection to their family jewellery, and we respect the history embedded in each piece.

The Remodelling

Once we understand your scope and the look you hope to achieve, we’ll get to work on refreshing your piece. This could involve modifying the metalwork, adding, or removing diamonds and/or gemstones, reshaping parts of the design or even fully reconstructing elements.

Transforming Multiple Heirlooms into New Pieces

Remodelling jewellery also presents the opportunity to re-purpose multiple heirlooms into new pieces. Imagine combining numerous diamonds, gemstones, and designs from assorted family pieces into a new, meaningful piece. The possibilities are endless. Our artisans will take the utmost care with your precious family heirlooms, so that each new creation still retains the memories and emotional value embedded within.

Enjoy Those Cherished Pieces Again

Just think how wonderful it would be to wear and enjoy old jewellery again, rather than have it stored and unworn in a jewellery box. By having it remodelled by Artisans Bespoke Jewellers, you can beautifully blend the past with the present by honouring memories and family history through jewellery that reflects your style and individuality.

Each transformed piece becomes a one-of-a-kind work of art infused with sentiment. You will love wearing your unique piece for years to come.

Client Jewellery Remodelling Stories

One Bangle To Rule Them All…

This customer made an appointment to chat to us about remodelling some of her jewellery. She had four rings and two bracelets, all of which she wasn’t happy with the quality or style of.

We chatted to her about what she was after and at the end of the jewellery consultation we had landed on a feminine, art deco, floral bracelet design. The design was carefully drawn by hand, to scale so she could see the design come to life.

The bangle was handmade with an intricate floral top plate and a hinged clasp. The hinge mechanism was fully handmade, not sourced externally. Because the entire piece was handmade onsite, we know that this bangle will last the test of time.

By comparison, if we had manufactured this piece using a process called ‘casting’, the structural integrity of the gold in the bangle would be inferior in comparison to one that could have been handmade.

The story behind each of our remodelled pieces is extremely special and we strive for each experience to be personalised to our clients – starting with your initial consultation and following through all the way to the final product. It’s important to us that you go home with a piece of jewellery that is personal, tells a story and pays respect to the original pieces.

A Sister’s Legacy…

Sadly, our customer Merryl had lost her sister. Merryl’s sister bequeathed her with a rose gold garnet and black diamond ring. Noticing that the garnets and diamonds were falling out, Merryl brought the ring to Artisans Bespoke Jewellers for repairs.

After looking at the ring and noticing the worn condition it was in, we recommended remodelling the ring where we would remake the same design using new gold and reusing the existing gemstones in the new ring.

Understandably, it was very important to Merryl that the ring retained its original look and feel, and our team respected and understood that brief.

By carefully unsetting the stones, we were able to reuse the garnets and diamonds in the new ring. We then handmade a new ring with more gold and a lower profile. This resulted in a ring that is not only more comfortable to wear but it will last much longer. The original ring weighed 3 grams and the new ring weighed 11 grams.

If you’re looking to refresh a piece of jewellery but you don’t want it to be unrecognisable from the original, our team of jewellery designers and qualified jewellers can do that for you. Just like we did for Merryl and her sister’s ring. We can unset and reuse diamonds/gemstones and we can even source diamonds/gemstones to match the colour, shape, size or cut of our clients existing materials. Following your brief, we can design and hand make a piece that pays homage to its original inception, but in a new form that will last much longer.

What Types of Jewellery Can You Remodel?

Most jewellery, including rings, necklaces, bracelets, and earrings, can be remodelled. However, this will depend on each individual piece and the changes you wish to make. Please book a jewellery design consultation with our team so we can understand your brief and materials that you would like us to remodel.

What Is Jewellery Remodelling?

Jewellery remodelling involves altering or repurposing existing pieces to create new designs, update outdated pieces, or restore pieces to their original beauty. This can include resetting stones, changing the style, or combining elements from multiple pieces.

Why Should I Consider Remodelling My Jewellery?

There are many reasons to consider remodelling your jewellery. Jewellery remodelling allows you to update the style of your piece, repair damaged items, or personalise it to better reflect your taste.

Can I Use the Stones From My Existing Jewellery in the New Design?

Yes, Diamonds and/or Coloured Gemstones from your existing jewellery can often be reused in the new design. This is a great way to retain a piece’s sentimental value while creating a new design.

How Much Does Jewellery Remodelling Cost?

The cost of remodelling can vary widely depending on the design’s complexity, the materials used, and the labour involved. However, it can sometimes be more economical than purchasing a new piece, especially if you are using existing materials and stones.

Can I Incorporate Additional Materials Into the Remodelled Piece?

Yes, you can add new materials, such as different metals or stones, to personalise your remodelled jewellery further.

What Happens to the Leftover Materials From the Original Piece?

We always return leftover materials, such as metal or stones, to you so you can use them in future projects. Alternatively, you can also have the leftover metal traded in. Please discuss this option further with our team when you come for your jewellery design consultation.

Can Remodelling Fix Damaged Jewellery?

Yes, remodelling can repair and restore damaged jewellery, transforming it into a new, wearable piece while retaining its original elements.

Is Remodelling an Environmentally Friendly Option?

Remodelling can be more sustainable as it reuses existing materials and reduces the need for new resources. This minimises the environmental impact of your piece.

Should I Insure My Remodelled Jewellery?

Yes, we would generally recommend getting a new independent valuation certificate after remodelling your piece to ensure the insurance coverage reflects the updated value.

How Do I Care for My Remodelled Jewellery?

You can care for your remodelled jewellery as you would any fine jewellery. We can also provide specific care instructions based on the materials used. If you have a piece of jewellery you’d like to update, book a jewellery design consultation or contact us today, and we’d be happy to create a bespoke design for you.
